Disability Lawyers and Disability Attorneys
One cannot discuss disability law or disability rights without referring to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The intent of the ADA is to "establish a clear and comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability." The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a disability as: “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the individual,” or “a record of such impairment,” or “being regarded as having such an impairment.”
The ADA prohibits discrimination against disabled individuals in the areas of employment, housing, education, and access to public services. Employers are also required by law to make reasonable accommodations to enable an otherwise qualified person with a disability to perform his or job duties. Additionally, if an individual is disabled, he or she may be entitled disability benefits.
